Maya Irwin has trained in Muay Thai kickboxing since 2008. She wanted to get fit and in better shape, but wasn't interested in a traditional gym setting. She enjoyed watching kickboxing, and was hooked after her first class. She's training for her first fight in October 2012.
Her style of training is to help members feel comfortable and have a good time with their fitness. She's high energy and likes to have FUN with her boxing class!
"I like to motivate and encourage members throughout the class and pushing them harder than they would themselves." Her theme for life is as succinct as it is effective: "You can do it!"
Her favorite part of being a trainer is that she enjoys helping others become healthier and fit. She loves to see the progression on goals that members set for themselves and gets a special thrill out of sharing the excitement they have when they see improvement in themselves. "It may be as big as weight loss, or as little as building confidence about themselves or feeling healthier. I like to share those little steps with them and get just as excited as they are," she said.
When asked what she would tell someone who was hesitant to try her class, she encourages anyone to "just try it once!" She's convinced that they'll enjoy it. She enjoys motivating and encouraging others in her class. "It may seem intimidating but once you get going and your adrenaline gets pumping it will be a fun and rewarding workout that keeps you fit and wanting more.
